Paul Mueller has been an active member of STC for at least 20 years. During this time, he has been involved in many programs at both the local and the Society level. He received the Distinguished Chapter Service Award (DCSA) in 2006, and he became an STC Fellow in 2014. The following lists summarize some of the ways in which he has served STC and our industry.
Society-Level Service
- 2017-2018, STC Fellows Committee Chair
Lead the Fellows Committee that helps refine the Fellows selection criteria, publishes the application and timeline, reviews all submitted applications, and recommends which candidates should receive recognition as STC Fellows to the Board for their approval.
- 2013-2014, STC Summit Program Chair
For the Phoenix Summit, lead the Program Advisory Committee that reviews all submitted proposals and makes recommendations about those submissions. Then, work with the Conference Chair and Education Director to review the recommendations and build a comprehensive program.
- 2011-2013, STC Summit Conference Chair
For the Chicago and Atlanta Summits, work with the Program Chair and the Education Director to review the recommendations and build a comprehensive program. Identify industry leaders and invite them to speak at the Summit on advanced technical communication topics.
- 2010-2011, STC Summit Program Chair
For the Sacramento Summit, lead the Program Advisory Committee that reviews all submitted proposals and makes recommendations about those submissions. Then, work with the Conference Chair and Education Director to review the recommendations and build a comprehensive program.
- 2008-2010, Strategic Program Assessment Task Force Chair
Lead the task force that did an analysis and assessment of each STC program area and submitted suggestions and recommendations to the Board to help STC grow stronger and better serve its membership.
- 2009-2010, STC Summit Deputy Program Manager and Track Manager
For the Dallas Summit, work with the Program Chair to organize the proposal review team and collect recommendations. Also serve as track manager for the Education & Training, Web Technologies, and Emerging Technologies tracks.
- 2008-2009, STC Summit Track Manager
For the Atlanta Summit, select and lead the review team for the Design, Architecture, and Publishing track.
- 2008, Technical Communication Journal Editor-in-Chief Search Task Force Chair
Lead the search committee who identified the top two candidates to serve as Editor-In-Chief for the Technical Communication journal.

Serve on the STC Board of Directors and help work on transformation-related issues.
- 2005-2006, STC Summit Proposal Reviewer
For the Las Vegas Summit, review session proposals for the Tools and Technology track.
